Geishas

Description
The lure of the Far East is represented on this celluloid purse frame in the form of two reclining geisha looking at their reflections in hand mirrors. A jar separates the two. I’ve chosen to show the side of this purse frame that contains a defect. Look closely at the geishas’ robes near the edge of their sleeves. When the celluloid was pressed into the mold for this frame an air bubble formed, creating these indentations. On the opposite side of the frame the robe is domed correctly to indicate the geishas’ knees under their robes. Despite this imperfection this is still a very desirable frame.
Size: 4 inches wide, 4 inches tall.
Value: 3 out of 10, with 10 being the most expensive.
