Chrysanthemums

Description

Chrysanthemums were first cultivated by the Chinese in 15th century BC. As an herb it was believed to have the power of life. The plant was brought from China to Japan, where it was so revered it was chosen for the imperial crest and seal. Japan also has a National Chrysanthemum Day, which is called the Festival of Happiness. Here the chrysanthemum is stylized in an Art Nouveau design. A nondescript black velvet bag was added at a later date. The bag is so boring, I’ve not included a picture of it.

Size: 5.5 inches wide, 3.75 inches tall (frame); 5.5 inches wide, 7 inches tall (whole purse).
Value: 4 out of 10, with 10 being the most expensive.
