Greek Warriors

Description

Celluloid frames with Greek mythology themes are among the more hard to find. This reflects the tastes of 1900-1920 . During this period Asian and Egyptian styles had captured popular attention. I have seen two other Greek-themed celluloid purses – one featuring the three graces and the other portraying Odysseus’ wife, Penelope.  There is also a frame featuring a stylized Greek or Roman maiden – possibly Persephone – that is more common. This frame, while not perfect in it’s modeling of the human figure, is very unusual in its depiction of two Greek warrior and so attractive to collectors.  This is another great piece from Australian celluloid purse collectors Mike and Lizzie.

Value: 4 out of 10, with 10 being the most expensive.
